Car Rental in Pakistan (2026): Prices, Options and What You Need

Rent a car in Pakistan: live prices by city and car type, offices vs international brands vs owners, self-drive by the hour or day, documents and costs.

Updated 17 October 2026 · By the HireACar team

There are three ways to rent a car in Pakistan. A rent-a-car office in your city, where many cars come with the office's driver. A counter of an international brand, which you will mostly find at Islamabad airport. Or a marketplace such as HireACar, where local owners list their own cars and you drive yourself, by the hour or by the day. This guide covers what each costs, what you need, and what to check before you pay.

Today HireACar lists 39 cars in 5 cities. The typical car costs Rs 8,000 a day, and half of all cars cost between Rs 5,500 and Rs 16,115. Each owner sets their price, and the price you see already includes HireACar's 10% fee.

Bookings on HireACar are paused for now while card and wallet payments are added. You can browse every car and price today, and book as soon as payments are live.

Prices by city

Live from HireACar listings, with the fee included. Most cars are in Lahore; Islamabad, Karachi, Faisalabad and Multan have fewer, and owners in other cities can list any time. Rawalpindi renters usually pick up in Islamabad, 20 to 45 minutes away.

Rent-a-car office, international brand or marketplace?

  • Rent-a-car offices are in every city and are the usual choice for a car with a driver for a wedding or a full day out. Self-drive terms vary a lot from office to office: some ask for a large cash deposit, a post-dated cheque or your original CNIC. Ask before you agree.
  • International brands (Hertz, Avis, Sixt and others) are listed on booking sites mainly at Islamabad International Airport, at international prices. See Hertz, Avis and Sixt in Pakistan.
  • A marketplace like HireACar lists cars from local owners. You see the car, the owner's rules and the full price before you send a request, the owner confirms, and you drive it yourself. Nobody may keep your original CNIC, licence or other documents, ask for a cheque, or ask for a guarantor. HireACar checks your identity instead. Report a host who asks.

By the hour or by the day

Most offices sell a day of 12 or 24 hours. On HireACar you can also rent by the hour: Some cars can be booked by the hour, for 4 to 12 hours; an hourly booking never costs more than the day price. Right now 3 cars can be booked by the hour, from Rs 499 an hour. It suits errands, an airport run or a meeting across town. See how hourly rental works.

What you need

  • Every renter signs up with a verified phone number and gives their CNIC number and a photo of the front of the card. Self-drive also needs a valid Pakistani driving licence. Owners may look at the original card at pickup, but may not keep it or any other original document.
  • To drive a car yourself you need a valid driving licence.
  • Visiting from abroad? Read car hire in Pakistan for overseas visitors first.

What the price includes, and what it doesn't

  • The price shown includes HireACar’s fee; there is no booking fee on top. Fuel, tolls, parking and traffic fines during the trip are paid by the renter, and returning late costs extra. Any pickup or return delivery fee is shown before you send the request.
  • HireACar does not hold deposits. If an owner asks for a security deposit, the amount and how it is returned are agreed with the owner before pickup.
  • HireACar does not insure trips. Insurance is the car owner’s responsibility, so ask the owner before you book.
  • Petrol is about Rs 390.23 a litre (OGRA, 16 October 2026). A sedan uses roughly a litre every 12 to 14 km on the motorway, less in city traffic.
  • Motorway tolls are paid with an M-Tag: Lahore to Islamabad on the M-2 costs Rs 1,430 each way for a car. Check the tag balance with the owner at pickup.

How booking works on HireACar

  1. Pick a city, dates and a car. The price you see is the price you pay.
  2. Send a free request. Say where you are going if you are leaving the city.
  3. The owner confirms. You pay online, and chat with the owner opens.
  4. At pickup, walk around the car with the owner, take photos, and note the fuel level.
  5. Return it on time with the same fuel. Returning late: after 30 minutes of grace on hourly trips (1 hour on daily trips), each started hour is charged at the car’s hourly rate, up to one day’s price per day late.

HireACar is a marketplace. The car belongs to the host, and the rental is an agreement between you and the host. HireACar is not responsible for any loss, damage, theft, accident, fine or injury involving the car.
