A car that sits in the driveway most of the week still costs you instalments, token tax and depreciation. Renting it out on the days you don't need it can cover some of that. You don't need an office or a fleet to do it: on HireACar you list your own car, set your own price and approve each renter.
What owners earn
Typical owner prices on HireACar today, and what they add up to at different numbers of rented days a month:
| Car type | Owner price / day | 6 days / month | 10 days / month | 15 days / month |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sedans | Rs 6,000 | Rs 36,000 | Rs 60,000 | Rs 90,000 |
| SUVs | Rs 12,650 | Rs 75,900 | Rs 126,500 | Rs 189,750 |
| Hatchbacks | Rs 4,000 | Rs 24,000 | Rs 40,000 | Rs 60,000 |
Owner price is the median price owners set for that car type (shown once three or more cars back it). You keep that price; renters pay HireACar's 10% fee on top. These are examples, not a forecast: what you earn depends on your car, your price and how often renters book it. Petrol is paid by the renter.
Setting your price
- Look at what similar cars rent for in your city on the pricing index and price close to the middle while you have no reviews.
- Switch on hourly rental if you can hand the car over for an afternoon. The listing form suggests an hourly rate of about a sixth of the day price, and an hourly booking never costs more than the day price.
- Clean cars with clear photos of every side, the inside and the boot get more requests.
How renters are checked
Every renter signs up with a verified phone number and gives their CNIC number and a photo of the front of the card. Self-drive also needs a valid Pakistani driving licence. Owners may look at the original card at pickup, but may not keep it or any other original document.
You see each request before you accept it, and you decide whether the car may leave your city: renters say where they are going in the request. At pickup you may look at the renter's original CNIC and licence, but you may not keep them or any other original document, ask for a cheque, or ask for a guarantor. HireACar checks the renter's identity instead.
What stays your responsibility
- Insurance. HireACar does not insure trips. Insurance is the car owner’s responsibility, so ask the owner before you book. Ask your insurer whether your policy covers the car while someone else rents it.
- Deposits. HireACar does not hold deposits. If an owner asks for a security deposit, the amount and how it is returned are agreed with the owner before pickup.
- Papers. Keep the registration book, token tax and M-Tag up to date. HireACar asks for the registration number when you list the car.
- A tracker. Many owners fit one before renting out; it also helps settle disputes about where the car went.
- Photos at pickup and return. Walk around the car with the renter both times and photograph every side and the fuel gauge.
HireACar is a marketplace. The car belongs to the host, and the rental is an agreement between you and the host. HireACar is not responsible for any loss, damage, theft, accident, fine or injury involving the car.
